THE FOUNDATION

An educational and cultural project born from dialogue

The origin: friendship

The Barenboim-Said Foundation is born from the friendship between Israeli musician Daniel Barenboim and Palestinian intellectual Edward Said.

The instrument: the orchestra

Both friends conceived the orchestra as a school of democracy; a meeting space for Arab and Israeli musicians that culminated in the creation of the West Eastern Divan Orchestra in 1999.

The objective: the meeting

A paradigm of peaceful coexistence between cultures, the Board offers Andalusia as the headquarters of the WEDO and a space for comprehensive humanistic training in 2004.
